Standard marine weather (GRIB) forecasts have poor resolution because they come from satellite imaging, not from actual wind measurements. They may have been made hours ago, and assume that the wind is the same everywhere within giant cells (which is not true). The SailTimer Wind Instrument™ is the first masthead anemometer with crowdsourcing to wind maps for better marine weather and navigation.
Join the community of sailors who are sharing wind data. Improve wind maps and tacking routes for all. When you use the Wind Instrument with your Android or iOS device or the SailTimer Air Link™, you have the option to share your wind data online.
The pages here show data points on graphs or marine charts. Check live wind conditions from home/office before deciding to go out on the water. Or at a sailing club, you can use this race tracking to see what is happening out on the water live or in later replays for performance analysis. Race officials: when you log in, you can get graphs of wind direction for setting upwind marks.
Wind barbs are shown on the map at the location of your Wind Instrument and any others around you. The arrow shows the wind direction. Each short line indicates 5 knots of wind speed, and each long line indicates 10 knots. You can click on the boat icon to view the wind speed and direction in more detail, with large numbers and graphs.
Note: We are working on a new display of the crowdsourced data as wind zones that are much better for navigation. So the maps and graphs on the menus here are no longer supported, and are in the process of being replaced.
